Willowburn Hotel, Clachan Seil, Oban, Argyll,

Just half a mile after you cross the Atlantic Ocean over the Clachan Bridge you will find the Willowburn Hotel, a small hotel privately owned and run by Jan and Chris Wolfe.  Standing in one and a half acres of garden leading down to the quiet waters of Clachan Sound, the Willowburn offers peace and quiet, good food, fine wines and comfortable homely rooms - all in an informal and friendly atmosphere.

Our residents' lounge looks down the garden and is a wonderful place to sit and relax in the peace and quiet. It's also a wonderful place to watch the world go by and the birds go about their daily quest for food. Small detail is brought into beautiful relief through the telescope at the picture window. You may see seals, the occasional otter, herons, oystercatchers, swans, curlews, and an assortment of small garden birds. Boats come and go with the tides and with them supplies of oysters, prawns or mussels to be taken to the fish market in Oban. The open fire brings warmth and contentment to the room and is a companion even if you are on your own. Our small library offers a wide range of information and there are board games and jigsaws to while away the evenings.

The dining room is light and comfortable and a lovely friendly room in which to begin and end your day. The view down the garden is just so relaxing, and it's an ideal room to enjoy the food we will prepare for you both for breakfast and for dinner. The dinner menu changes everyday, and offers a generous choice of dishes using local fish, seafood, meat and game - all served with fresh garden vegetables. There is always at least one vegetarian meal offered and we cater for special diets too, as long as you let us know in advance. Breakfast also offers a choice each morning, with cereal, fruit juices, bottled and fresh fruits, fish and the traditional full breakfast.

There is a small residents' bar with an agreeable selection of malt whiskies and Scottish beers - you don't have far to walk to your bedroom, so why not try some?! The bar leads out to a small covered patio which on a warm day is a great place just to sit and watch the world go by - the warmth is a great inducer of sleep, as we have discovered!

All our bedrooms except for one look down the garden and over the Clachan Sound. Looking east, you can waken to the sunrise and birdsong. As you pull back the curtains, the day stretches ahead of you waiting to be filled. Each room has comfortable beds, ensuite shower or bath, colour television, CD/clock radio, hairdrier, a kettle with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and shortbread, and some finishing touches to help you enjoy your stay. The heating in each room is independently operated, so you can have your room at the temperature you like. Our downstairs bedroom is especially suitable for elderly or ambulant disabled guests.
